we_school Community Program
Currently Daniel and I are working on the we_school community program. It will take place during the next 12 month. Its goals are
- to achieve a better understanding of what the (educational) needs of the local community of Khajuraho are
- to raise awareness of we_school
- to show that education can have an immediate impact on a child and its family’s life
The program will start in July 2012 with the implementation of the A Hole in the Wall Learning Stations. Our 10 day we_school camp in October – with a tent on Khajuraho’s market square – will bring we_school into the village’s center. During the camp international educators will hold a variety of workshops in which local and foreign students, parents and community people deal with local needs and problems. All the participants within their groups are challenged to find collaboratively solutions and maybe even prototype. Since there is no “content” on how to solve the problem handed out, the learning becomes active in the sense that participants discover and work with content that they determine to be necessary to solve the problem. The educator acts as facilitator and mentor, rather than a source of “solutions.” This way the participants will experience the benefits of collaborative learning and self-organization.
The results of the community program will incorporate in the we_school’s solution/project based learning program. This program runs besides the curriculum and is equally important.
