ES IST VOLLBRACHT (DONE)!
The “kickoff event” for we_school was the implementation of 1 “hole in the wall” computer learning station (= 2 computer screens, http://tinyurl.com/76auh2u ). The learning station is installed – but only after we learned that we have to built a house for the computers, that was not included in the budget. Again: these computers are NOT connected to the internet, their sole purpose here is to empower the kids to teach themselves, using the 500 learning programs on the computers! To make a long story short: the kids are now forming crowds in front of them, and hopefully the school teachers will include the learning programs in their curriculum.
Kids gathered for a first ‘test drive’ of the learning station … but something is missing here: girls. We asked the teachers explicitly to make sure girls have an equal share of the fun
WE also learned our first lessons how to deal with the ‘local authorities’ [e.g. the 'ruling' local family, the principal of the school, his supervisor], and the other people involved: the contractor, the artist who painted the logos, the people who installed the computers. The result is for everybody more than convincing and will help us to take the next steps towards the we_school.
